How does Car Storage work?
We discuss your car storage requirements either via email or telephone, then when you are completely happy you either drive your vehicle to the Autovault premises, or we collect it from your specified location. We complete all the documentation here during the handover process which takes approx. 40 minutes.
If you cannot be here in person, we can complete everything via email. Following handover we can offer you a lift to a close mainline railway station, or you can arrange your own onward transportation.
Do I need any of the Car Storage Maintenance Packages.
We offer maintenance level I and II. Level I is a 20 point vehicle check every 30 days. We will look for any leakages under the car and asses them prior to start up. We check vehicle warning light status and if ok start the vehicle. Once running, we will move the vehicle and check the operation of the major systems whilst the car gently warms up. After approx. 20 minutes, or when the cooling fans cut in, we will move the vehicle back into it’s car storage, and conclude the test. Should anything we consider serious have occurred, we will discuss the test with the owner and await instructions.
The Level II is all of the level I test, followed by a short run on private roads. This means we do not require an MOT or road fund license to carry out the test, and the car is not at risk from other road users.
What do I do about insurance
We fully comprehensively insure every vehicle on an fully comprehensive, and individual basis. Whilst we have your vehicle on our premises we have it covered. You can decide if you wish to keep your existing insurance cover going or not.
How much notice do I need to give to remove my vehicle from car storage
We ask a minimum of 2 working days’ notice, but the more notice you can give the more it helps us to fully prepare your vehicle to come out of car storage.
Can I view the premises before I decide to put my vehicle into your car storage facilities
Unfortunately we cannot allow viewings of the facility without a car storage contract in place. This is purely for security reasons, and to protect owner’s privacy. You are welcome to fully inspect the car storage area before you complete the handover process.
Can you get my vehicle MOT’d
Yes we can take your vehicle to a local test station, wait with it while it is inspected, and then return it straight back to car storage upon completion.
Do I need a cover for the vehicle whilst it is in car storage
We believe that the best way to get the de-humidified air to all parts of the car is to leave the vehicle uncovered. We store the vehiclewith a window open, and this together with an undraped chassis helps to get the de-humidifed air to all parts of the car. We will of course cover your vehicle if you so wish.
If I remove my vehiclefrom car storage part way through a month do I pay for the remainder of the month.
No, in a part month, we only charge per day for the length of time the vehicleis in car storage.
